WORLDS OF FUN IS NAMED OUTSTANDING YOUTH EMPLOYER

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations today announces Worlds of Fun Theme Park in Kansas City as the next recipient of the “Outstanding Youth Employer” award.  This award acknowledges Missouri businesses that go beyond the mandated child labor requirements in providing a safe haven for youth to work.

Worlds of Fun was selected for demonstrating youth safety practices throughout the park.  Some of the extra safety measures for youth under the age of 16 include: training indicating restricted locations and types of work at the theme park, close working relationship between youth and supervisor and specific colored name tags to easily identify workers under 16.

“Worlds of Fun has taken a proactive approach in keeping youth safe in the workplace.  They are a prime example of the hundreds of Missouri employers who have dedicated themselves to ensuring safe working environments for kids,” said Tom Deuschle, director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

Worlds of Fun will be honored during a ceremony on April 28th at the Worlds of Fun Theme Park in Kansas City.  Cedar Fair, L.P, out of Ohio, owns the theme park.  Phil Bender, general manager of the park will accept the award.   The Worlds of Fun Theme Park is one of the largest employers of children under the age of 16 in the state of Missouri.

The Missouri Department of Labor’s Division of Labor Standards identifies potential award recipients through random inspections conducted by investigators.  As a result of those inspections, the investigator then submits the name of the business and the reason he/she found the employer to be exemplary to the division for consideration.

The Division of Labor Standards works closely with parents, educators and employers to further promote safe workplaces for Missouri’s youth.  For more information or a brochure, please visit www.dolir.mo.gov/ls or call (573) 751-3403.
