First Aid COURSE/CLASS DESCRIPTION PART 56/57, and PART 77, Training First Aid For Selected Supervisors And Other Interested Miners Description of the Issue: We feel First Aid is an important aspect of miner safety and health training. It has proven to be the difference between life and death in some instances. Many of the interactive sessions in other classes indicate the techniques learned have aided the victim by lessening the degree and severity of the injury through proper first aid treatment. The eight and 10 hour First Aid Classes has proved to be our most sought after class in FY 1997 All the mines are scrambling to meet the requirements of Part 56, 57 and 77 It has proved to be the best and most informative class presented to the miners in the state. Proposed Solution: Continuation of the program; Goal: Our class critiques have all been excellent. We project FY 1997 numbers to be around 1200 miners trained in the eight and 10 hour class This will taper off to about half for FY 1998 and increase to 750 in FY 1999 FY 2000 will be another banner year We would like to present this class in seminar format but would lose the hands on training that the mines desperately need Bandaging is a technique that must be presented one on one This is the reason why 12 miners per class is ideal Even though CPR is a part of the class, many mines are requesting the four hour CPR class in addition to the eight and 10 hour first aid class. OBJECTIVE: We will train the miner in the required subjects that will enable him or her to provide the necessary life saving techniques or injury controls in the event of an accident that causes injury This training will not only satisfy the requirements found in CFR 30 Parts 56 and 57 for metal and nonmetal mines and Part 77 Coal, but will give the miner the knowledge and techniques to reduce the effects of an injury or save a life We will provide an initial eight hour First Aid class and two one hour refresher classes to metal/nonmetal mines Then the cycle will repeat We will provide an initial 10 hour First Aid class with a five hour refresher class to coal mines Then the cycle will repeat. Outline:
Time: Discussions will cause the time devoted to each segment to fluctuate. Each topic will be presented with the type of mine and the proximity of medical help in mind. This will allow more time to be spent on some topics than others. |
