The Research and Analysis Section of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) provides research capabilities and support to other sections within DOLIR, other state agencies, and industries and organizations within the state. A variety of information is provided to the various clients of the Research and Analysis Section. Examples of the information provided include information related to unemployment benefits, compliance to labor laws, workplace safety, occupational health, employment discrimination, and employment of disabled persons.

A large amount of the data provided in this information is produced in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Occupational safety and health data is collected annually from approximately 5,400 private industry employers in Missouri. The data is compiled in the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses. Survey information includes occupation and other demographic information of workers who incur work-related injuries and illnesses, the nature of the conditions and how they occurred, and the time away from work.

The Research and Analysis Section also collaborates with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to compile annual occupational injury and illness data. OSHA uses the results to concentrate their activities such as inspections, outreach, consultations, technical assistance, and leveraging programs.
