Director Rebman Meets Missouri Laborers in the Classroom

St. Louis, Mo- Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) Director Larry Rebman visited the Laborers-AGC Training Center located at 35 Opportunity Road High Hill, Mo., 63350 to meet Missourians participating in the Construction Craft Laborers' Apprenticeship program.

“The Laborers-AGC provides resources and services such as training and apprenticeships Missouri Laborers need to improve their quality of life,” said Rebman. “Hundreds of Missourians are hitting the books so that they can get a step up and become more competitive in the job market. Programs such as these are essential as we work together to turn the economy around and provide Missourians with the skills they need to get them back to work as quickly as possible.”

Over the past year, more than 1,300 Missourians, such as Joe Weinhardt from Imperial, Mo., completed the training course. “By completing the laborers apprenticeship program and receiving my certificate, I have been able to provide a better life for myself and my family,” said Weinhardt. “The skills I’ve learned have opened doors for many employment opportunities. This is a testament of how courses such as these can help Missourians turn their lives around.”

The Center’s courses offer a wide range of skills to Missourians working in the laborer field. According to the Center, the unemployment rate for apprentices in the eastern half of Missouri is 20%.

Missouri's unemployed workers receiving training at centers such as this one, still are eligible for unemployment benefits as they develop and hone skills that allow them to return to work quickly and advance their careers.
