Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to Reopen the

 St. Louis Regional Claims Center

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) today announced that it will reopen the St. Louis Regional Claims Center (STLRCC) on Feb. 23, 2009. The move is a response to an increase in claim volume due to record-high unemployment.

“Due to the present unemployment situation, the Department felt an obligation to provide more resources for Missourians during this time of need,” said DOLIR Director Larry Rebman. “Our goal is to turn the economy around by providing unemployed Missourians with the tools and resources they need to get back to work as quickly as possible.”

When the STLRCC was closed last August, some employees who previously staffed that office relocated to Jefferson City. A portion of those employees will temporarily transfer back to St. Louis to assist with the workload, while additional employees will be rehired.

Employees located in the St. Louis office will work at determining the eligibility of protested claims. The staffing additions also will assist with processing regular and adjudicated claims, and responding to customer and employer inquiries.

Unemployment benefits are intended for persons who become unemployed through no fault of their own. For more information, please visit the Internet site www.dolir.mo.gov.
