Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Randell Hearon and Roberta Wood Selected by their Peers
as Employees of the Month for February
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – When an individual suddenly finds himself out of work, it can be very reassuring when the person providing assistance is knowledgeable, courteous, and willing to go the extra mile. Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations staffers Randell Hearon and Roberta Wood provide that kind of service. They have been selected by their co-workers as Employees of the Month for February.
Both are employed as Claims Technician IIs in the Department’s Division of Employment Security (DES). Hearon staffs the Jefferson City Regional Claims Center; Wood the Springfield Regional Claims Center. In their positions they are responsible for filing unemployment claims, determining eligibility, answering the Help Line, and assisting Missourians with filing weekly claims and explaining the guidelines for benefits.
Hearon and Wood are among the DES staffers who have worked overtime daily and volunteered their Saturdays to assist with the workload. In January,
Gov. Jay Nixon visited DES workers in the Jefferson City office to thank them for working overtime to process more than 200,000 unemployment claims.
“Randell is very kind, considerate, and helpful to his peers, employers and claimants. He is a diligent worker and always presents himself in a very competent manner,” co-workers say. “He always has a positive attitude and has a friendly greeting for everyone.”
Co-workers say Wood was nominated and selected for her knowledge, attitude, and helpfulness. “Roberta always maintains a positive attitude towards her work and co-workers. She is always helpful and willing to go the extra mile for claimants and co-workers.”
Randell Hearon has been employed by the Department for more than 22 years. Roberta Wood began her employment in 2002. Employee of the Month is not an official program administered by the Department. Instead, it is a process by which Jefferson City and Springfield staff choose to recognize their peers.
