Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations: Watch Out for Unofficial Internet Sites Claiming to Help with Unemployment Insurance Claims

JEFFERSON CITY, MOThe Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is warning Missourians of an unofficial Internet site urging Missourians to file unemployment insurance (UI) claims and other services the Department of Labor provides for free.

“Missourians need to be aware that there are scam artists seeking to mislead them and obtain their personal information,” Director Todd Smith said. “We will continue to do all we can to inform our citizens about these bogus Internet sites and protect Missourians from fraud.”

UI claim processing is a free service provided by the Department’s Division of Employment Security. Therefore, Missourians should be cautious of any business that charges a fee for this service. Under Missouri law, workers who become unemployed through no fault of their own and are actively seeking work may be eligible to receive up to 26 weeks of UI benefits. To file a Missouri UI claim, please visit the Internet site, www.moclaim.com. The official Internet site of the Missouri Department of Labor is www.dolir.mo.gov.

Missourians should be aware that the Internet site www.moclaims.com, with an “s” on the word “claim”, is misleading in that it has no affiliation with the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. The official Internet site for filing unemployment insurance claims through the Missouri Department of Labor is www.moclaim.com (claim spelled with no “s”).

Missourians wishing to file a regular, initial UI claim can do so online with the Department of Labor at www.moclaim.com. Missourians who have exhausted their unemployment benefits after May 1, 2007, or have a benefit year ending after May 1, 2007, should call their local Regional Claims Center at the number below between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
